Puerto Ayacucho, the capital of Amazonas State is definitely the best choice for a base of exploration into the forest with good accommodation, restaurants, shops and places of interest before the start of one of the most exciting tours offered in Venezuela.

The most luxurious and yet affordable prices Amazon is the Grand Hotel with 110 rooms with 9 suites recently remodeled very attractive, hot water, a huge swimming pool surrounded by lounge chairs and a hut-bar, restaurant with air, and private security. This Hotel is very close to night life and is recommended if you want to go out at night.
The best offer from the residences and inns here is economic Posada Turística Los Santos of Main Street in Barrio Ajur. Has eight rooms simple but pleasant (3 more under construction and a dining room) with bathroom / cold water, mini fridge, AC, cable TV, CCTV for security.
Rancho La Nueva Posada Jacks High Carinagua way (the street right next to the Passenger Terminal). Is misidentified as Jairo and Judith Sanchez did not have rooms, they offer an area to set up their own tents, with use of a bathroom and a kitchen and barbecue, and breakfast available on request. Another thing is that it gives optional spa treatments.
A 5 km along this road, there is an indigenous community with its traditional houses Piaroa including a communal style that looks like a giant chocolate.
Among the hotels, Earth Magic, in Barrio Aramara next to the school, has 19 simple rooms but comfortable and quiet with bathroom and cold water, Air conditioning, cable TV, refrigerator and parking.
The Shaman is the best restaurant in the hotel on Avenida Orinoco and Apure fine dining, exotic and different. Asian poultry steak with ginger and scallions Vermicceli with a creamy homemade ice cream.
Essential is a visit to the Ethnological Museum Amazonas "Monsignor Enzo Ceccareli" in Black River Avenue, opposite the square Rómulo Betancourt, where sale of original crafts of the Indians.
You can not miss Saturday's Indian Market at the southern end of Avenida Orinoco by selling smoked river fish wrapped in palm leaves or fresh cassava hard and soft, handmade brooms by the Indian Piaroa, spicy Katara of Jivi and even the sale of live Hbachacos their asses eating raw or incorporate their heads in the manufacture of katara.

A 2 km after the exit for Orinoco, Agua Blanca community can appreciate the craftsmanship of the Indians Piapoco, specializing in wood carvings and fabrics typical bird bags.
